Several neighborhoods in Monkey Junction lay right on the water, with community marinas and owned boat slips available for its residents. The area is also ideal for those with a love for the water. Monkey Junction also has all the necessary amenities for a safe and welcoming community, with schools, a library and a fire department all in the area. The area excels with their offering of restaurants, with an abundant mix of major chains, award-winning local favorites, and new options opening around every turn. Though once a more rural area, recent commercial development and growth in Monkey Junction has left the area with a number of strip malls, and major retailers. Recently, the area has undergone substantial commercial and residential growth. The bus driver would call out “Monkey Junction” upon reaching the stop, and thus the name was born. In the late 1930s through the mid-1970s a gas station at the intersection was known for the live monkeys that it kept to attract customers.
